Former President Donald Trump hosted FIFA chief Gianni Infantino at Trump Tower in New York City, holding a reception ahead of the World Cup final between Spain and Argentina.
Lee Greenwood's 'God Bless the USA' played as Trump and Infantino entered the event.
They posed together, prominently holding the World Cup trophy, a symbol of global football's highest achievement.
This high-profile encounter followed a contentious decision regarding U.S. striker Folarin Balogun, who incurred a one-match ban during the U.S.-Bosnia match on July 1.
Trump directly contacted Infantino, requesting the suspension's removal, a move that generated immediate public and media attention.
FIFA ultimately lifted the suspension, allowing Balogun to return to the field on July 6.
Meanwhile, Infantino released a statement, asserting FIFA's disciplinary process operates independently of external influence.

Trump further asserted, 'They won the game, and our team had all of its players.'
He concluded, 'Gianni made yet another of his many good decisions,' despite the U.S. losing to Belgium 1-4, which ended their tournament run.
Balogun acknowledged the controversial nature of Trump’s intervention; sports media outlets widely echoed this sentiment.

Infantino credited the U.S. president for making the World Cup the 'greatest human, social and cultural event mankind has ever witnessed.'
