Lucy Davis, acclaimed for her role as Dawn Tinsley in The Office, has revealed her breast cancer diagnosis.
The cancer has spread to her spine, right hip, and ribs. Davis now uses a wheelchair due to severe pain when standing or walking.
Davis shared the news on Instagram on Tuesday, claiming she has terminal cancer and does not know how long she has left. She stated the disease has spread to her bones.
Sally Kum of Breast Cancer Now expressed deep sorrow, stating, "We’re deeply sorry to hear the news that Lucy Davis is living with metastatic, incurable breast cancer, and we’re sending our thoughts and support to Lucy, her family and everyone close to her at this incredibly difficult time."
Lucy’s story is a powerful reminder that we cannot take our foot off the accelerator.
Kum praised Davis for raising awareness about metastatic breast cancer in the UK. Her openness will undoubtedly resonate with thousands.
"Lucy’s story is a powerful reminder that we cannot take our foot off the accelerator," Kum added, calling for greater investment in research and better treatments.
She emphasised the need to push for "game-changing discoveries and access to life-extending drugs like Enhertu so that people living with metastatic breast cancer can have more time to live."
Davis, daughter of comedian Jasper Carrott, has faced significant health challenges previously. These include a kidney transplant in 1997 and a battle with bulimia.
As of now, I’m trying to live out whatever might be left of my life in as fun a way as I possibly can.
She stated, "As of now, I’m trying to live out whatever might be left of my life in as fun a way as I possibly can."
Davis maintains she is "at peace with whatever comes next" and wishes to continue working and advocating for animal rights. She insists she is "perfectly able to do so, and acting is one of the biggest joys in my life."
Jenna Fischer, Davis's former co-star in The Office, sent her support. Fischer was diagnosed with stage one triple positive breast cancer in 2023 and is now cancer-free.
Fischer reportedly feared she would not be hired for acting jobs if she went public with her diagnosis. She responded to Davis's news with, "Beautiful post. Love you lots. And yes to working with cancer! Let’s spread that message far and wide! How working is such a comfort!"
Ricky Gervais, another co-star from The Office, sent a heart emoji to Lucy Davis on social media.
