A former MTV employee is giving evidence in the trial of Russell Brand at Southwark Crown Court.
The alleged offenses, involving six women, occurred between 1999 and 2009. Brand denies all charges, suggesting his accusers 'reimagined' encounters after media reports.
The trial's first week saw the prosecution open its case and the first two women give evidence. The woman testifying this week was in her 20s when she met Brand at a bar in Fitzrovia.
The alleged incident took place during a birthday party at the Nordic Bar in Soho. The woman did not report the incident until 2023, after allegations of sexual misconduct against Brand emerged in a documentary.
The prosecution claims Brand grinned 'like a clown' and told the woman 'don't be a spoilsport' as he raped her. The woman sobbed, telling police the actor had a 'weird maniacal grin' when he grabbed her hair and forced her to perform oral sex, despite her protests.
I just remember this weird maniacal grin, looming in front of me as he just grabbed my boobs.
"He literally just grabbed my boobs, out of nowhere, just in the middle of a conversation," she recounted. "I just remember this weird maniacal grin, looming in front of me as he just grabbed my boobs." She added, "Then literally he grabbed my arm and dragged me into the toilets."
The woman also claimed Brand grabbed her arm, pulled her into the toilets, and locked the door. He then leapt on a toilet seat, unzipped his trousers, and forced her to perform oral sex. "I did definitely say, 'What are you doing? I don't want to do this'," she testified.
Brand's barrister, Ian Winters KC, cross-examined the woman on how much she had drunk on the night of the alleged rape. Winters suggested Brand and the woman went to the toilet for a 'kiss and a cuddle' but abandoned sexual activity due to the toilet's condition.
The barrister also suggested Brand had not exposed himself to the woman after the alleged rape. He stated Brand has no memory of the incident. The woman told a colleague about the encounter at the time, calling Brand a 'sexual predator'.
The six accusers did not know each other and came forward independently. The trial is ongoing.
