Men Jailed for 11 Years Each in Winsford Rape Case

Diyar Mohammed Abdulsalm, 28, and Dilgash Adil, 32, both of Ledward Street, Winsford, have been sentenced to 11 years in prison each after being found guilty of raping a young woman in Cheshire.
Police responded to a report concerning an 18-year-old woman in Winsford at 4:55 am on Friday, July 24, 2024, detailing an incident that occurred in December 2023.
The victim informed officers she had suffered rape after travelling to the men's home address at Longmynd Rise, describing herself as drunk and vulnerable at the time of the attack.
Officers arrested both defendants, Arafat Adil and Abdulsalm, later the same day following the report; Adil held refugee status in the UK since 2020, while Abdulsalm claimed asylum in May 2023.
Adil faced deportation from Germany to China on July 23, 2026, where authorities took him into custody; both men denied the charges, asserting the woman consented to sex.
A trial subsequently convicted them, leading to their sentencing, with Judge Simon Berkson stating, 'It is quite clear you both took advantage of her vulnerable state.'

He further added, 'You then effectively ushered her into the other room. It appears you effectively invited Abdulsalm to rape her as well, which he did.'
Detective Chief Inspector Ian Murray confirmed, 'Abdulsalm and Adil targeted a young woman who could not consent due to intoxication.' Officers swiftly safeguarded the victim and arrested the pair in connection with the offences.
Nicholas Williams, defending Adil, claimed his client had not set out that night with a plan to sexually attack anyone; the victim, in her statement, revealed she no longer feels safe.
She suffers panic attacks, struggles to sleep, and experiences anxiety around strangers; both men must sign the sex offender register indefinitely as part of their sentencing.
Detective Chief Inspector Ian Murray concluded, 'Despite their denials, the jury found them guilty and they have now been jailed for their crimes.' He expressed hope that 'Although the victim will never be able to forget what happened, I hope these sentences provide her with some closure, knowing that these men are behind bars and justice has been served.'
