Man Charged with Murder Following Fatal Grangetown House Fire

A 23-year-old man faces murder charges after a fatal house fire in Grangetown.
Natalie McDonald, 34, died in the Birchington Avenue blaze; Cleveland Police confirmed two fatalities, including one child, though formal identification of the victims is pending.
The unnamed man is scheduled to appear at Teesside Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, facing two counts of murder.
He also faces charges of grievous bodily harm with intent and attempted section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent.
Four other individuals sustained injuries in the fire; a 48-year-old woman remains in critical condition at the Royal Victoria Infirmary (RVI) in Newcastle, and a 27-year-old man is receiving treatment.
Two teenage girls were discharged from hospital after suffering non-life-threatening injuries.
Separately, a 31-year-old man previously arrested in connection with the case was released without charge.
Cleveland Police confirmed officers dispatched to the property at 5.23am on 26 August; Cleveland Police and Cleveland Fire Brigade's fire investigation officers are jointly investigating the circumstances.

Katie Nicolson confirmed prosecutors worked closely with Cleveland Police to establish sufficient evidence for the case to proceed to court.
Nicolson emphasised, "We remind all concerned that proceedings against the defendant are active and he has the right to a fair trial."
She further stressed the importance of preventing any reporting, commentary, or information sharing that could prejudice the proceedings.
The fire is not linked to a fatal collision on the A66, which reportedly claimed the lives of seven people, including PC Matthew Blades and PC Tom Clough.
An 18-year-old man has been charged with dangerous driving after a vehicle was spotted being driven dangerously in the town on Saturday.
Officers initially stated they could not rule out linking the house fire with wider gang violence that erupted in Teesside following the crash.
