One person has died and at least four others have been injured in a drive-by shooting in the Yvelines district west of Paris.
The perpetrator fired a STEN-type submachine gun, a World War II-era weapon, from a vehicle. Authorities identified the suspect as Kevin T., 39.
Police knew Kevin T., but national intelligence services did not. He drove through Trappes and La Verrière for 15 minutes, firing an automatic weapon at a petrol station, a medical center, and a children's playground.
Ali Rabeh claims the individual killed was of African origin. One critically wounded person is reportedly of North African origin.
The incident was an attack with racist connotations, probably Islamophobic.
Rabeh also claims the incident was an attack with racist connotations, probably Islamophobic. The Interior Minister denounced the attack as "clearly a terrorist crime."
French authorities, however, state no motive has been established yet. Police claim the motive for the shooting remains unclear.
The National Anti-Terrorism Prosecutor's Office monitors the situation. An investigation is underway to determine the circumstances and motives of the shooter.
Clearly a terrorist crime.
Police stopped the suspect, finding him with a STEN gun and teargas grenades. Reports indicate the suspect's home had been booby-trapped with gas cylinders.
